For those who do not know, the movie Pi was the first feature film by Darren Aronofsky, the director of Black Swan and Requiem For A Dream. Pi is a techno-math, raw, thriller that keeps you on the edge your seat whether you like math or not. Because it is not about the math. In actuality it is about a genius mathematician on the brink of discovering a pattern in predicting the stock market's outcomes, while trying to keep his sanity which is quickly slipping away.
I just watched the movie for the first time the other day and I enjoyed it very much with its raw power and stylistic direction that is very similar to Requiem For A Dream (2000). Pi coming out in 1998 exposed Aronofsky to his "hip-hop" editing that is much more prevalent in Requiem but it should the extraordinary capability for the director. It was a very deep and complex feature and should be tool for young directors to study.
