'Tis the season to be jolly and what is more jolly than the spirit of Christmas music in the air. Even though I do not celebrate Christmas, I enjoy the wonderful, warm and family joining tunes of the season.

Staying for the Holidays?

Sometimes, you have to make where ever you are home for the holidays. New York City is not a bad place to be this time of year, not in the least. If you're one of our many residents staying over the break, here are some things you MUST check out before the Spring semester starts up:

Its that time of the year.

And we know how stressful that can be. Its important to be working hard, but to also remember to take care of yourself. Last night there were snacks in the basement for all the residents chuggin' away at their final projects and papers. Here at Ludlow we encourage hard work, but also think that taking a cookie break isnt such a bad idea ;)

Rice Cooker mac and cheese

What you'll need

-strainer 

- 2 cups of pasta 

- 1 bag of shredded mozzarella or any other cheeses of your choice

-chicken broth

-1/2 cup milk

-4 table spoons butter

- (optional) Bread crumbs (panko are my favorite) 

Instructions

First put the two cups of pasta into your rice cooker and fill up the rice cooker with the chicken broth so that it's covering the pasta a little bit. Turn on the rice cooker and allow pasta to cook until tender, I suggest checking after 25 minutes to make sure the pasta hasn't already cooked and isn't burning on the bottom of the pot. After pasta is done cooking place pasta in strainer to drain any left over chicken broth and shake out, do not put under cold water as the warmth of the pasta is needed to melt the butter. Put pasta back in rice cooker, put in butter and milk and mix pasta until butter has completely melted. After, take the shredded cheese and mix in with as much cheese as desired making sure there is an even amount of cheese in the pot, after this place breadcrumbs on top (if desired). Put lid on pot and turn rice cooker on 5-10 to allow cheese to deliciously melt in the pasta. Take off lid and enjoy!

Post Pool Tournament

Well it was a bloody battle from the beginning. 10 players from the right out of the gate matched up with each other in the ultimate showdown of the Fall Semester.  Some upsets, and some clear victorious but over all every one seemed to enjoy themselves.
The main highlights of the afternoon boil down to:
   Chan of the 18th floor took home the precious winnings of 2 movie tickets.
   Omar coming in 2nd.
   One disqualification for not showing up
   And finally everyone having fun.

DIY Holiday Decor!

It's holiday season and you can be sure New York City will make sure you know. The stores on Fifth Avenue are all glittering, the tree at Rockefeller was just lit up and the snowflakes outside Ludlow have been hanging for a month or so now.

If you want to bring some of that holiday cheer into your own room, here are some examples and inspiration:

Pin up lights, yarn, some branches and hang whatever cards or ornaments you have on them.

You really can't go wrong with string lights. Try some non-glass ornaments or paper snowflakes to bring in the season.

We all have some extra white acrylic paint and soup cans, so a small snowman can for pens and such is a nice touch :)

Pinterest has a million and a half paper cone tree ideas and more.  A small LED light is all you need after  that!

Honestly, who doesn't appreciate a nice paper snowflake?

First I'd like to extend a warm welcome to all residents back from their holiday break. Weather you went back home or stayed at ludlow and mentally clocked out for the past few days, theres only about two and a half weeks left of classes! I hope all your finals go well and I hope everyone gets all their projects done and handed in on time. It's also okay if things happen to be a little late, don't beat yourself up over that, especially if you tried your hardest. Since turkey season is over I've been hearing nothing but christmas songs over the radio, honestly I'm one of those people that never get tired of it. I'm ready to dive head first into this metaphorical, christmas themed, peppermint smelling pool of joy. So sorry if I get a bit obnoxious with these christmas posts but my blood is screaming for Holiday cheer. The Wonder Years

During the Thanksgiving break, I was introduced to the show The Wonder Years. I have heard it referenced before but I never knew the power it had because I had never watched it. Well... Now I have watched it and I am addicted. It is on Netflix and I say it is powerful because it brought up memories from my growing up in middle school.

The show is told from the perspective of Kevin Arnold, a 12 year old kid in 7th grade. The show is about his growing up and the experiences of a 12 year old learning the word in school, among his parents and in other families... The Wonder Years in everyones life.

I am currently on season 3 and I an captured by the innocent love between Kevin and his neighbor Winnie Cooper. They like each other and shared their first kiss (SPOILER) but like any pre teen relationship... it's nervous and comfortable. It's adorable.

Each episode refreshes an old memory I had back when I was in middle and high school. Some great and some horrible but that's life. It's a wonderful show and still holds true to modern culture even though the show takes place during the late 1960's.

It's an adorable, sad, growing up show that I am in love with now. Make the right choice on life!.. or don't... it's all about learning and becoming an adult.
