The Building


The Ludlow Residence is SVA’s newest residence hall, built in 2009.  It is comprised of 259 single and 47 double rooms.  During the academic year, Ludlow houses 225 SVA students, 126 King’s College students, and 20 Alvin Ailey students.

The Rooms

Double Room
The rooms are adjoined together by a shared bathroom, single-to-single or single-to-double, making them suite-style rooms.  Double rooms have lofted beds to accommodate a larger living area for the residents.  Single rooms' beds are not lofted.  Single rooms are on average 8 x 10', and double rooms are on average 16 x 20'.

Each room is fully furnished for each resident and has the following amenities:
  • extra-long twin bed
  • 4 dresser drawers & a closet 
  • desk & chair
  • storage cabinet
  • microwave & mini-refrigerator
  • central air conditioning and heating
  • overhead lighting
  • Wi-Fi & high-speed internet
  • cable ready
  • large windows with privacy shades


  • Bedding for an extra long twin bed

  • Computer and/or TV
  • Lamps, if you prefer additional lighting
  • Clothes & Hangers

What Not Bring…
  • Personal Furniture

  • Pets or Animals of Any Kind

  • Cinder Blocks

Cooking is not permitted in the rooms.  Students can use the microwave provided in the room or The Communal Kitchen.  All cooking appliances are banned from Ludlow rooms. 

The following are acceptable appliances: Coffee Makers, Electric Kettles, and Rice Cookers. 

The following are unacceptable appliances: Hotplates, Toasters, George Foreman grills, self-heating cooking appliances, toasters, and blenders.

Access Cards & Keys

SVA students use their school IDs to enter the Ludlow Residence and their rooms.  Each student’s ID can only access the front door, terrace, and his or her room – no other rooms.  Each room is issued a mailbox key that opens the mailbox that corresponds with that room.

What to do if you lose your key or key card:  Visit RHD Nicole during her office hours (Mon, Wed, Thurs, & Fri 9 am – 5 pm) to be issued a new one.  Until your card/key is replaced, Security can key you into your room.  Replacement keys and key cards cost $25 and are billed against your housing deposit.

If you lose your SVA ID, you can go to the Registrar’s Office to be issued a new one.  Once you are issued a new SVA ID, please let RHD Nicole know so that she can add access to your new ID.

Community Room

The Community Room is located in the basement and is open 24-hours.  It’s a place where students will attend building meetings, fun programs, and hang out with other students.  The Community Room is connected to the communal kitchen. 

The Community Room has the following amenities for students to enjoy:
  • Comfortable furniture
  • Tables and chairs for eating and working
  • Big Screen TV and DVD player
  • Foosball Table
  • Pool Table
  • Games
  • Wireless Internet 
  • Vending Machines (right outside the community room entrance)

The Communal Kitchen

The Communal Kitchen is located in the basement, attached to the Community Room.  There is a stove, oven, microwave, toaster oven, and other various appliances for students to use. 

Students are responsible for cleaning up after themselves while they are using the kitchen.  

Students are welcome to bring a lock box to store their own cooking utensils (labeled with their last name name and room number).  Dirty dishes left in the sink or on the counters will be disposed of at 9 am each morning.

The Terrace

The Terrace is located on the 2nd floor and is open from 8:00AM to 9:00PM daily.  There are two large bike racks and an electric grill for students to utilize. 

Please ask security if you need to access the bike racks outside open hours.  
  • Smoking is not permitted in the building or on the terrace. 
  • Please do not step on the plants; they are delicate. 
  • There are two professional staff apartments located on The Terrace.  Please respect their privacy.

Laundry Room

The Laundry Room is located in the basement and it’s totally FREE!!!  Yes, that’s right, FREE! The Laundry Room features Laundry View, an online and texting notification system!  Visit www.laundryview.com to see how much longer your laundry needs or what washers and driers are free! 

Washing takes approximately 40 minutes and 1 hour to dry.  Please clean the lint trap when you complete your laundry.  Running a dryer with a full lint trap can cause a fire! 

Staff is not responsible for lost or stolen laundry.  Items left unattended for more than 24 hours will be donated to a local charity.

Trash Disposal

Each floor has a trash chute and recycling bins.  NO GLASS or BOXES IN TRASH CHUTES !
  • Trash (Rubbish) Chutes – bagged garbage only, no glass!
  • Recycling bins – paper products, glass, and cans
  • Boxes – collapse all boxes and bring to the basement garbage room (located across from the community kitchen)

Mail & Packages

Mail is delivered to the mailboxes in the lobby near security.  Each room only receives one mailbox key, residents of double rooms will share a key. Loss of this key will result in a $25 fee for replacement, billed against your deposit. 

If you are expecting a package, your room number will be recorded on the white board near security.  Simply inquire with security about your package and they will have you sign and receive it. 

If you choose to receive mail while staying at the Ludlow Residence, your mailing address will be:

Security will not accept the following deliveries on your behalf for groceries, dry cleaning, or laundry.


Internet

Internet is provided for each student.  Wireless is throughout the building.  To login a student uses their MySVA login and password.  For new students this would be their login would be their sva email handle and their password is their SVA ID number.  Example:
Login: jsmith325
Password: 0987654

Each room is also equipped with Ethernet hooks ups.  Residents will need to provide their own Ethernet cord. 

What to do when there is a problem with the internet:  Please fill out a TMA Request online at http://tma.sva.edu and choose Network/Cable (IT) under Maintenance Category.  Please be as detailed as possible in the description.  For example:  My Wi-Fi has been down since about 6 pm.  And it comes and goes.  The LAN is working fine.

Cable

Rooms are cable ready.  There is a cable connection in each room.  Residents are responsible for providing their own TV and cable cord.  Ludlow has DirecTV as their cable provider
