Be Mein Valentine
Please excuse me while I go vom/cry in my corner. Now dont get me wrong! I love LOVE. The idea of being in love with someone, BEING in love with someone, and allll of the things that come with it. But im not gonna lie to you, Valentines day has never been my cup of tea. Too many forced displays of love, too much red, not enough chocolate. Do I sound like a bitter old lady yet?? ;)

As this lovely holiday rolls around its really impossible to ignore all the valentines day cards that people post. Funny ones, Serious ones, and down right creepy/weird ones. Here are a few of my favorites for you to send to your friends, loved one, future valentine, or just keep to yourself.
For all you single people out there: Im 169% (see what I did there? ew) down to have a pal-entines day, gal-entines day, anti-valentines day, or regular day of eating pizza and stuffing my face with chocolate. Hit me up if youre down, Im in room 1905 :).
ENJOY!! <3

Get the Inside Scoop at TimeOut.com
Get the Inside Scoop at TimeOut.com
My teacher E.Baker once said, "To be bored in NYC means you're an effin boring person". His blunt statement resonated with me as I often find myself in a rut of following the same mundane routine. I decided to change my way of living by exploring more of what NYC has to offer. I was overwhelmed with where to start with my new determination to change my living style.Luckily, I found the website timeout.com. On timeout.com there thousands of events posted on their page. They even split their events up in categories and months. One of the best parts of timeout.com is their list of FREE events in NYC. As a broke college student, their FREE event listing is a great way to experience something new without breaking your bank account.
So if you ever feel bored in NYC check out timeout.com to see what's going on in our fabulous city. New York is what you make of it. So get out there! Explore!

Quick Flatbread Pizza
All the ingredients that we used to make the pizzas I was able to purchase at Trader Joe's for less than $20.
The bread:
Flatbread
Base ingredients:
Basil pesto, pizza sauce, olive oil
On Top:
Mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, breakfast sausage, mushrooms, red peppers, basil, tomatoes.
For most of my food events I like to give residents the options to make their own pizza. Each resident grabbed a piece of flatbread and they were very creative in making some tasty looking pizzas. Sometimes it is good to just try any combinations of ingredients to make something tasty. There's no need to be afraid when you're cooking! :)
Be sure to check out my Baking Goodies Event on March 11th @ 8 PM!

HBO: Girls
Before the Golden Globes Award Ceremony in January, I had never heard of the show Girls. When I found out that this show had won two Golden Globes I was automatically drawn to find out what this show was about. Two days after the GGAC I was glued to my computer watching Girls Season 1. I can proudly admit that I watched a whole season of this show in less then a day ( 5 hours). I do wish that the each episode had been longer at least 1 hour long each. So that I could have spent 10 hours of my day watching this awesome show!
Three days later after watching the whole first season of Girls I was already starting the Second Season of the show. All I can say is that you need to watch this. As students that now live in New York city, we must watch this because there's so much that we can relate to it. It's almost like the new Sex in the City, but in Brooklyn!! There's just so much that I can relate to with this show: the drama, the sex, the struggle, and the survival of living in New York City.
Check it out! HBO on Sundays, or watch it on HBO GO the next day.

George Bellows
I don't recall exactly how I came to know about his paintings, but I vividly remember my first impression on his work. The words that immediately came to my mind were: boxing, blood, and violent, all of which I strongly dislike. So when a friend of mine suggested that we should go and see the exhibition on George Bellows at the MET, I was less than excited about the plan. However, his paintings at the MET proved me wrong.
His powerful, rough, but equally beautiful brush strokes were just mesmerizing. The sense of light against the dark further adds to the sense of dynamic to his paintings. I found that his paintings are not all about violence and blood. They are much more than what I had initially thought.
Looking at the paintings more closely, I felt a sense of dynamic movement, immediacy due to his particular brush strokes, and beautiful contrast of light and dark. In addition to the paintings of box matches, the exhibition also features some of his beautiful paintings depicting gritty, albeit beautiful scenes of New York City's tenement life. Unfortunately, I did not find his later paintings as much as powerful as his earlier paintings, but it is just a matter of my opinions. The exhibition is at the MET and it is until February 18th. Must see!!

Munch & Inventing Abstraction in MoMa
On Jan 25, we headed to MoMa for two special exhibitions- Munch and Inventing Abstraction. The Munch show highlighted many of his paintings, including a preliminary study of one of his famous paintings of "Scream," It was amazing to get a glimpse of the artist's process work, which shows the artist's period of contemplation in deciding shapes, lines, and colors before finally producing the piece that would continually be seen as his masterpiece for centuries.
"Inventing Abstraction" features the burst of
the abstractionist movement, staring from Picasso's paintings in a period of cubism, which gave rise to the abstractionist movement to that of Kandinsky, when the movement was in a full bloom.
Both shows are scheduled to be on until the middle of April, which fortunately allows enough time to check out these amazing works. It is definitely worth checking out. I highly recommend to those who are especially interested in the modern art.
